On the afternoon of March 24, the 101st anniversary of the birth of the famous Ningbo translator Mr. CAO Ying, the Opening Ceremony of Ningbo Cultural Legacy Hall·Caoying's Archives was successfully held in the Yongfeng Library Branch of Ningbo Library. In the opening ceremony, Ms. SHENG Shanshan, the daughter of Mr. CAO Ying and an artist living in the USA, donated the translation manuscripts and multiple books of Mr. CAO Ying to Ningbo Library. Mr. CAO Ying's over 1,500 items, including manuscripts, letters, books and articles, returned to his hometown Ningbo.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of China-Russia diplomatic ties and also the start of the China-Russia Year of Culture. Videos of congratulatory speeches from Mr. LI Hai, Consul General of China in Irkutsk, and Ms. Stasyulevich, Irkutsk Regional State Universal Scientific Library of Molchanov-Sibirskiy, were played in the opening ceremony. Ningbo Library also presented some of Mr. CAO Ying's translated works to Irkutsk Regional State Universal Scientific Library of Molchanov-Sibirskiy to further strengthen the ties of cultural exchanges between the two libraries.

Mr. YU Weinian, former Vice Chairman of Ningbo Committee of Chinese People's Consultative Conference and President of Chinese Culture Promotion Society-Ningbo Branch, and Mr. JIAO Shuanglin, Deputy Director-General of Ningbo Foreign Affairs Office, attended the ceremony.

Mr. SHENG Junfeng, known as the pan name CAO Ying, was born in Zhenhai District, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. He devoted his whole life to Russian literature translation and built a splendid and solid bridge between Russian and Chinese literature. He translated all of Tolstoy's novels on his own, became the first translator in China who translated Mikhail Sholokhov's works, and translated the works of Mikhail Lermontov, Valentin Kataev and Galina Nikolaeva. The exhibition of Ningbo Cultural Legacy Hall·Caoying's Archives consists of 5 sections, including Preface, Early Life, Translation Accomplishments, Translation Contribution, Warm Friendship, which comprehensively reflect CAO Ying's lifetime pursuit of translation accomplishments and broad vision of global literature exchanges.
