On the morning of June 26, the Opening Ceremony of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Energy Ministers Meeting was held in Ningbo. Mr. LIU Jie, Governor of Zhejiang Province, ad Mr. WANG Hongzhi, Head of the National Energy Administration of the People's Republic of China, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.
Mr. LIU Jie extended a warm welcome to all the guests on behalf of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee and the Zhejiang Provincial Government. He noted that President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to energy cooperation. During the SCO+ Meeting held in Astana, Kazakhstan last year, President Xi Jinping solemnly proposed the initiative of "Building a Common Home with Five Characteristics" and put forward with a series of initiatives on green energy and international energy security, providing clear guidance for us to hold this meeting successfully and deepen energy cooperation. Zhejiang Province is the place where President Xi Jinping has worked for many years as well as the important cradle of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. In recent years, Zhejiang Province has faithfully implemented the "Double-Eight Strategy," actively advanced the Strategy of "Achieving Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality," carried out in-depth projects of green and low-carbon development as well as energy supply and price stability, and built a high-standard and modern energy system. Boasting well-developed energy infrastructure, a solid energy industrial foundation, and a dynamic energy trading market, Zhejiang Province enjoys a sound cooperation basis and huge cooperation potential with SCO member states. Zhejiang Province is willing to work together with SCO member states to expand the scope and depth of energy cooperation, promote cooperation in the areas of fully-integrated oil and gas industrial chain development, clean energy development, energy technology innovation, energy security protection, contributing Zhejiang Province's strength to fostering energy cooperation with SCO member states.
Mr. WANG Hongzhi pointed out in his speech that the resurgence of unilateralism and protectionism against the trend of the times has inflicted a severe impediment to normal energy trade. The National Energy Administration will firmly uphold the multilateral trading mechanism, actively expand trade and investment cooperation in renewable energy and other areas, and promote mutual recognition between energy technology standards and market regulations. The National Energy Administration is willing to work with all parties to encourage greater exchanges among relevant enterprises, scientific research institutions and universities engaged in the energy field, and promote cooperation in the fields of the research and development of technologies for the clean, low-carbon and efficient utilization of fossil fuels, new energy industrial innovation, and energy equipment manufacturing, thereby facilitating the energy transition.
Mr. Khan Sohail, SCO Deputy Secretary-General, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, which was chaired by Mr. REN Jingdong, Deputy Head of the National Energy Administration.
